Editor’s Note: This feature was originally published on our previous platform, In the In-Between: Journal of Digital Imaging Artists, and the formatting has not been optimized for the new website.
optional features shown is comprised of portions of car commercials in which the text and representations of cars and people have been digitally replaced. I am especially interested in seeing what is left after the impetus for creating the initial videos is removed. What value remains in something as ubiquitous and repetitive as a car commercial?
I examine how anticipation and expectation proliferate throughout image culture. Questions include: Where does the value in an image exist? And what is the role of images in constructing personal and collective perspectives and understandings? Through complication of the source material, existing images are used to navigate new ways of approaching aspiration and loss.
